Berger Paints Nigeria PLC was incorporated on the 9th day of January 1959 as British Paints (W.A.) Limited. It commenced business in 1961 by importing Paints from its principal partners in the United Kingdom. In March 1962, it commissioned its factory in Lagos, Nigeria, which incidentally was the first paint factory in the country. The company was the first paints manufacturing company quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on 14th December 1973.
The company is today the leader in the manufacture of Decorative and Industrial paints, Marine and Protective Coatings, Automotive/Vehicle Refinishes and allied products. The company's products enjoy an effective distribution through a network of depots and numerous distributors as well as agents throughout Nigeria. Since its inception, the company has recorded a commendable number of industry firsts.
It was the first company in Nigeria to introduce textured coatings into the country, the first paints manufacturing company to be quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the first to be ISO certified, and now upgraded from NIS ISO 9002 to NIS 9001:2000 and the first to hit the N1 Billion mark, among others. There is, therefore, no doubt that Berger Paints Nigeria PLC is the dominant and leading company in the industry. The company is blazing the trail in enhancing quality of its paints products through improved production techniques. The company has acquired technologically advanced production machines, which are already creating positive effects in its operations and efficiency.
